We are approaching ‘throw it at the wall’ time in Austin. Yesterday, the internet was abuzz about the possible resignation of Mack Brown and eventual hiring of Alabama head coach Nick Saban as his replacement. Neither has happened, but Brown did issue a denial. Then we learn that Saban has had a contract extension sitting on his desk in Tuscaloosa since last week. All caught up? Good. Now the latest report from Orangebloods.com’s Chip Brown is that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh are prime candidates for the not-yet-vacant position.

We are at that point again where we begin to talk about another mediocre and failed season for the Dallas Cowboys. Sure, they are a game behind NFC East leading Philadelphia with the season finale against them in three weeks, but do you trust that defense in any game moving forward, especially against the explosive Chip Kelly offense led by Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy? This is a defense that just allowed 490 yards to the Chicago Bears and their backup QB. This is a defense which allowed 490 yards for the fifth time this season. This is a defense which is coached by Monte Kiffin, who is well beyond his dominant days in Tampa. Fear not Cowboys fans, because Jerry Jones has his back.

Congrats to Dave K & Watsonian on Michigan State’s Rose Bowl berth yesterday. (I should probably congratulate CBH too, just in case…) As much as I hate the Green & White, I hate Ohio State a whole helluva lot more.…
Ho – Lee – Fook. Last week was the best single week of picks I’ve ever had, going 12-3-1 in the sixteen games of Week 13. I’ve got no idea where that came from, and I doubt it’ll ever happen…
The #1 selling jersey in the NFL last season was that of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. This isn’t the case this season, and you can blame the parents of young Skins fans for that.
According to a report in the NY Times, vendors at FedEx Field said they have seen a steep drop in purchases for RG3 jerseys, and they have firsthand knowledge of why (via ThePostgame):

While the games that have been played on Thursday night in the NFL aren’t exactly the greatest match-ups(just look at the explosive Jacksonville vs Houston game tonight), it is a big win for the league, the owners, and the fans. Football is top dog of all sports in this country, and we cannot get enough of it. Of course, this is at the expense of the players having to recover and prepare themselves on short rest, because most played on the Sunday prior. With the NFL’s focus and mission on player safety, playing with such a quick turnaround seems couterproductive, especially to the players themselves.
Players have stated they are not fans of these games, it is now that they are becoming more vocal. Reggie Bush of the Detroit Lions, who is getting more work than he ever has since entering the league, voiced his displeasure (via CBS Detroit) and made a somewhat accurate comparison of what football is like on the body, and how difficult it is to play another game so quickly:
