In the wake of the terrible news of the death of Alabama football player Aaron Douglas, ESPN ran an Insider only story that is in such poor taste I can’t find the words to properly describe it. Here are two screengrabs:
Here’s the second one.
Incredibly insensitive, and indescribably offensive. Several people should lose their jobs over this.

Holy fuck that’s terrible. The apology deserves the full front page on the site
This reminds me of that insensitive Tractor Traylor eulogy from yesterday.
I was actually embarrassed by that.
“Although it’s far from the most important result of this development…”
Still have half a year to go but we have a leader in the clubhouse for 2011 Understatement of the Year
I can’t believe that someone would write that first of all, then someone would clear it, and then it would get published without the person who pushes content to the site turning around and saying “really?”. There are three or four levels of failure here.
Wow. Just. Wow. I’m sure this was some dumbass blogger they hired, but it reflects the company as a whole when the fucking editor lets that through.
Damn!
If I wanted to pay $2.50 a month for a reminder of how little people value human life I’d still be paying bums to fight.
Exactly where my thoughts went too
Other enjoyable factors: his death is only devastating in light of the tornadoes, and Nick Saban suspected he would die.
bright side: has spawned a great twitter meme
They’ve done worse. The Ed Thomas story was bumped to 2nd in Sportscenter the day it happened so they could lead with the USA’s soccer match in the Confederation’s Cup.
Clearly in the minority, but I don’t think this here is all that bad. They could have framed it a lot better but it’s not like they completely disregarded the kid’s death. I’ll leave and you can all call me heartless now.
Wow, that was sort of out of left field fetch.
I am assuming TST edited my comment. Cute.
Now he has to edit another one, as I clearly meant TST
Taguchi say hello to the Trollfetch 9000. This is the new top of the line model that comes preloaded with all relevant advanced baseball metrics, as well as “I’m gonna sex your sister” innuendos, and for an extra $19.95, you can get the tempo free basketball stats software upgrade.
You’re all squared away fetch.
Doubtful, as he doesn’t have those privileges here
Who the hell is Albert Lin?
I think he’s about to be a guy that used to work at ESPN.
I didn’t think that anyone would take that seriously. Sorry, my mistake.
Our newest author?
FWIW- I was in the ER with my wife yesterday when the Traylor post was published. That’s not an excuse, but I have pulled it from the site.
No worries TST. I just didn’t want lefty to fly to my apartment and stab me because of an edited comment.
We’re angry about a post? Controversy = pageviews. Who is to blame? I hope I didn’t have any thoughts on Traylor I forgot about.
Also, in the spirit of the post hope the wife is all right sparty.
Did you read that thing? I would’ve cleaned it up myself had I been around.
I have no idea what is being discussed. I’ve been reading about free will/determinism for the vast majority of the last 56 hours.
Leanne Schrieber please come back, if only for one day, and rip those dumb fucks a new asshole.
You think that is worse than this? Are you retarded? It would only be worse if ESPN said Ed Thomas’ death opened the door for their rival to win the district title.
ah.
“he finally bit the dust.”
nice.
she’s all good, just cut her finger and needed some stitches.
as far as the post…poor taste…unacceptable wording. if he cleans it up, he can repost it.
As soon as I read the title “Conked out Tractor” I knew it would only get worse.
SC, your leg hair has seized control of you brain.
So does that mean JP no longer writes here?
I have a post or two scheduled tomorrow.
I didn’t think jp’s post was bad yesterday.
