Trade Deadline Rumors: Zach Randolph to the Magic

February 15, 2011
By

As the NBA Trade Deadline nears next week, numerous rumors are circulating that the Orlando Magic are trying to land Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies PF would give them an additional post player alongside Dwight Howard. When D-Ho is in foul trouble, the Magic often struggle. Randolph has always been one of the more talented low-post scorers (career 17.5ppg), and is an effective rebounder (career 9.1rpg). While in Memphis, he has often drawn double teams, but with the best center in the league next to him, he should be able to exploit one-on-one matchups. This will also give help to Howard offensively, who sees double teams more than any other post player in the game.

The rumors also indicate that the Magic are trying to unload the player formerly known as Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas, and his bloated long-term contract. The Magic acquired Arenas in a multi-player deal earlier this season and has disappointed while averaging only 8 ppg on 35% shooting. Arenas would be the key player involved from the Magic side in order to get the deal done. It is unknown what other players may be involved.

If this trade was to come to fruition, it would indicate for the second time in recent years that Grizzlies GM, Chris Wallace, unloaded an All-Star PF for lesser talent. He would also be dumping the expiring contract of Randolph in return for Arenas’ deal. That should go over well with the rest of the league and the Grizzlies’ fans.

Arenas is considered a worse player than Zach Randolph now? Man, he has slipped.

Who didn’t see it coming that Arenas would continue to suck?

Big Zach and J-Rich Reunion would be nice, but I’m sad to miss out on the toxic locker room tandum of Zach and Gil.

I can’t even begin to express how much I already hate Chris Wallace. This move could possibly drop me into a homicidal state.

    Two people.

Otis Smith and 15 year old kids who think Arenas is great because he used to score a lot of points.

the Grizz are in contention for a playoff spot, so naturally it’s time to start trading away the contributing players.

Any time you can trade a good low-post scorer on an expiring contract for a washed-up over paid guard when you already have a solid backcourt you HAVE TO MAKE THAT MOVE.

we expect it. now, if the Magic could trade one of those faux 20 oz arena beers with way too much head for the rights to Kwame Brown, then the Grizz would glady give up Randolph for Brown straight up.

    moving on…

I wish someone would fuck Michael Heisley not so gently with a wire brush.

    I’d take his pay check.

Hey Sparty, you should sell those coffee mugs with the “Sparty and Friends” logo. I’d totally buy one.

This. As if it’s unique the sports.

One of the things that keeps popping up is this about “subtext.” Plays, novels, songs – they all have a “subtext,” which I take to mean a hidden message or import of some kind. So subtext we know. But what do you call the message or meaning that’s right there on the surface, completely open and obvious? They never talk about that. What do you call what’s above the subtext?

    The text? The theme?

  20. TheTicketMaster on February 15, 2011 at 2:37 pm

OK, that’s right, but they never talk about that.

    -Barcelona (1994).

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.

i don’t get this trade if i am memphis.

you already have a decent backcourt rotation and then you add a “washed-up” arenas?

  22. Steven on February 16, 2011 at 10:56 pm

OMG, Memphis won’t send Zbo, definitly!
