The Michigan State Spartans are in the midst of another NCAA Tournament run under head coach Tom Izzo, which means it is time for another go around with rumors about him leaving the only team has ever coached in his 19-years for greener pastures (pun intended). The latest comes from Sam Amick of USA Today, saying that the Detroit Pistons are going to go hard after Izzo:
Sigh, this is purely speculation, nothing more. Yes, Pistons owner Tom Gores is an MSU alum, and likely very proud of and impressed by Izzo, but that certainly isn’t enough reason to believe that it would be enough to lure Izzo down the interstate. And please, ignore Jalen Rose, who likekly saw Amick’s video report:
ESPN's Jalen Rose said "it's a realistic chance" Michigan State's Tom Izzo may be the next head coach of the #pistons

There isn’t a year that goes by where someone thinks Izzo may leave. Part of this is Izzo’s fault for being openly honest about frustrations. He then refuses to never say never, like he did in an interview with SI.com’s Michael Rosenberg last month. Coincidentally, this is when Izzo-to-the-NBA started up, again. There is nothing substantial to believe Izzo would actually consider leaving. He did this a few years ago, tempted by the idea of coaching LeBron James, and when James made it clear he wasn’t going to Cleveland, it made it an easy decision to stay.
Let me tell you, it isn’t happening.
