The New York Giants are an 0-4 team in the NFL. They stink. The have looked terrible in each football game they have played. They are realistically, a bad team. They have 12 games left in the season. They could theoretically win all 12 of the games and make everyone forget about the 0-4 start. This is unlikely to happen (very unlikely), but one member of the team believes they can do this.
Antrel Rolle talks, a lot. He is the unofficial mouth piece for the Giants, and tries extremely hard to keep it positive, no matter how poorly the team has played so far.
“Do you believe this team can win? Because if you don’t you’re already defeating yourself,’’ Rolle said after sharing his thoughts with his teammates. “I believe we can go 12-0 from this point on. I truly believe that and I’m not just saying that and people may look at me like I’m crazy but I could really give a damn at this point.
“I told the guys we just have to believe we can do it. Once you train your mind and really believe it, not just tell yourself you believe it but really actually believe it, that’s going to allow things to come together.’’
Who knew that Antrel Rolle was also a follower of Tony Robbins? He is out of his mind, like Robbins. The Giants can ‘believe’ whatever it is he thinks they should believe, but the evidence we have to go based on at the moment would lead us to believe that it is more likely that we see the Giants lose the rest of their games. Look, it is nice to give a rah-rah speech, but when you stink, you stink. The Giants are a lousy team.
I get the need to stay positive, especially when the Giants are still only 2 games out of first place in the NFC East. Yeah, that’s how bad the division is. It is the only hope the Giants and their fans have at the moment. Rolle isn’t the only one trying to keep everyone’s head up, as Eli Manning is trying to spread cheer:
“There are worse spots to be,’’ Manning said. “It’s one thing to lose and it’s another thing when you’re not in the game in the fourth quarter, which has occurred the last three games.’’
Okay, that may be true, but have the Giants seen how bad they have been in the fourth quarter? They have been outscored 146-61 this year. That’s on Eli in every other quarter. He can be one of the best in the clutch, but he hasn’t been so this year.
Rolle says he’s been hiding in his house the last month, basically afraid to be out in public. When he walked away from holding court with the media, he left them with a message of “You all haven’t seen the end of us yet.’’
Maybe he was crossing his fingers and toes when he said it. If it were only that easy.
