Monday is the day that you can become a TRUE YANKEE

February 24, 2013

Alex RodriguezOn Monday, the 2009 Yankees’ World Series ring that was awarded to Alex Rodriguez will go up for sale in an auction, starting at a paltry $5000 starting price.

Now, lest you fear that the man who has signed the two richest contracts in MLB history is going through some financial trouble, it is not actually A-Rod that is auctioning the ring.  It is his cousin, and the man implicated in the original A-Rod steroid scandal, Yuri Sucart. A-Rod apparently gave Sucart the ring as a gift, and now Cousin Yuri is auctioning it off through a consignment deal with a memorabilia dealer.

So, for a mere $5k, you can take your shot at owning this treasured piece of baseball history, and claiming your place among the Yankees’ hallowed history.  And if you’re especially clever, you might try to sell it back to Alex (at a profit, of course).  Because if the Yankees find a way to cut ties with him this season, he certainly might want something to remind him of his only championship, of the days when he was a TRUE YANKEE.

I am wondering about the legal implications of a player signing a contract and then being found to have used PEDs before he was signed. Now if I pay a guy a salary based upon his ability to hit .300, 40 HRs and 100RBIs, then he gets off the juice so he won’t test positive and jeopardize the contract, is there a way out? The contract was signed under false pretenses because the player didn’t have the natural ability he claims to have. I am interested as to when a team will finally sue a player to void their contract for using prior to being signed.

CBA pretty much prevents a team from doing so. Owners agreed to essentially take no further action if a player gets busted.
