Pat Knight ejected, calls dad from locker room.

Lamar men's basketball coach Pat Knight talks with officials after he was ejected from a game Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Alabama. Knight received two technical fouls in a short period of time. Photo from Twitter.com/bwaters3 / BELamar coach Pat Knight (former Texas Tech head man and son of Bobby) is a chip off the old block. He’s a pedigree, one which is easily ticked off, if you want to go that route. On Tuesday night he ejected after being hit with two technical fouls for berating the officials after a non-call in Lamar’s blow-out 75-47 loss to Alabama. Things got so bad, that assistant coaches had to hold Knight back to keep him from taking things any further. (I looked for video, and couldn’t find anything).

Knight’s excuse? He’s at a small school, so he doesn’t get the calls he would at a big school. It was his way of working off the aggression.

An ejection? Big deal. I guess what is newsworthy in all this is what he did after being ejected. When he finally made his way to the locker room, he noticed he had no television to watch his team, so he did what every young man would do…he called his dad. Bobby Knight knows a thing or two about being tossed and putting on a show while doing it.

“(He) said don’t worry about it,” he said. “That’s part of the game.”

Atta boy. That’s the deep father-like advice that I’d expect from Bobby. Lamar sits 1-6, suffering blowouts in all six losses.

At least Bobby didn’t tell him to shoot the official.
