Usually at this time of year, the Detroit Red Wings are busy establishing themselves as Stanley Cup contender, but while still being knee deep in the league imposed lockout, there is very little to report. Enter top prospect Riley Sheahan.
Back on October 29, the Red Wings top pick from 2007, was pulled over by Grand Rapids police when he was driving the wrong way in his 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Obviously, when the police pulled him over, the officer could tell he had been drinking. But that isn’t the only thing, as Sheahan was wearing a costume of Tinky Winky, one of the Teletubbies.
He was described as being “super drunk” by Grand Rapids Police after he was pulled over for driving the wrong way in a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The 20-year old, playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins, also was carrying teammate Brendan Smith’s Michigan driver’s license and wearing a purple Teletubby costume when he was pulled over close to midnight in Grand Rapids.
According to the report, Smith, who was drafted by the Red Wings as the top pick in the 2007 draft, was not at the scene but when police asked Sheahan if he was carrying the 23-year old Smith’s ID to get into bars he concurred.
I’d say that is a pretty bad night. Being that this was just before Halloween, we are going to guess this was a costume he was wearing to a party at some point that night for just that.
Just in case you are wondering, “super drunk” is an actual distinction under a new Michigan law which describes anyone with a blood-alcohol level above .17.
