Happy Hourish: Yet another Bracket, Almost as Fun as the Cartoon One*

*Might be more fun

The sports radio show I like best on the only station I listen to, The Score 670, is the Boers and Bernstein Show. It is one part snobby Jewish Duke grad who worked in minor-league baseball and basketball PR before turning to radio and a crusty ex-Sun Times sportswriter who used to be a drunk and really fat.

The show began a few years ago putting together The Tournament of Bad. Bad ideas, annoying people, obnoxious trends, abhorrent culture, poor behavior–all that make the field get seeded just like the real NCAA Tourney, and starting today, people can vote. It has gained fame and today was mentioned in SI’s Hot Mustard.

There are some hoots in here, and I urge you to check it out. Most are universal, not local or regional. My favorites this year: the state of Pennsylvania (the show hates the way Paterno and the university has been defended by locals), men with ponytails, runners that run in place at stoplights, pageant moms, guys who say “We’re Pregnant,” Hiking near the Iranian Border, and sharing a hotel room on company trips.

Here’s a printable version. Please enjoy or explain why you refuse to.

  1. I had them winning…here’s 20 dollars….light the goddam grill. Gdammit! My family bracket is doing worse tho…three of the ff are out! Only s. Fla still alive

  2. I had Mizzou going out in the 2nd round. door is open for MSU. even though their half of the bracket is much harder after tonight.

  3. That’s pretty funny, Vez. I still have an ax (axe? whatever) to grind with them for screwing me over. The station, not that on-air team.

  4. Q: How do you know it’s spring?
A: When Michigan St. is still playing and Michigan isn’t.

  5. Amazing that no 2 over 15 upsets for 11 years and we got two today! Makes the Michigan loss not even look that bad.

Now I just have to hope that the Syracuse offense wakes up tomorrow for Kansas St. They are a good team and a good rebounding team at that. Going to be a battle

I’ll bet I can guess which one is the snobby Jewish Duke grad…
