NFC North quarterbacks don’t like having to deal with Julius Peppers breathing down their neck. Offensive lines game plan to deal with the tenacious pass rush he brings. Reports out of Chicago are starting to indicate that those teams may have even more to deal with when the Chicago Bears defense lines up. Free agent Mario Williams could be helping Pepper terrorize QBs next season.
If the reports are true from CSNChicago.com, Williams will be playing opposite Peppers for the 2012. Many sources are indicating in Chicago that he has the Bears at the top of his list, and the Bears feel the same way. Williams missed almost all of 2011 with a torn pectoral muscle, but will be good to go for the upcoming year. He registered 5 sacks in the 5 games he showed up for, adding to his career total which now stands at 53. He has more than justified his number 1 overall selection back in 2006.
The NFL is a copycat league, and the Giants have now won 2 Super Bowls with ferocious pass rushes leading their defense. A tandem of Peppers and Williams might have to be considered one of the best.
Whether or not the reports are true remain to be seen, but deals get done quickly in the NFL free agency period, so when the clock tolls at 4pm, it may not be long before Williams signs on the line to play in the Windy City.
