Philladelphia’s $25 million a year man, Ryan Howard is not having a very enjoyable offseason. After tearing his Achilles tendon to end the 2011 season, he’s trained hard to be able to come back early this season. Those plans may have now derailed, as he had a surgical procedure to remove an infection around the area of the tendon repair. He won’t be taking part of workouts or spring training games for the forseeable future.  That’s something  that you could call “bad” for the Phillies, especially with that contract he has.  I know exactly how have a $20+million player on the IR most of they year can hurt a team (see Mauer, Joesph).
