How often do you see a nearly 6’9″ 270lb center step in front of pass, then take the ball himself on a breakaway for a dunk? Yeah, almost never, at least until last night at the Breslin Center. Michigan State Spartans junior center, Derrick Nix, jumped out in front of a pass at the top of the 3-point line last night night against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, then took the ball the rest of the way all by his lonesome, throwing down a monster two-handed jam. This Izzone responded with a raucous standing ovation for the big man.

And Nix is quite the passing big man as well. He dished out 5 assists last night as the Spartans destroyed Nebraska 62-34. Maybe he can give Keith Appling a rest while Travis Trice recovers from an ankle injury? I’m sure Izzo would be all about it.
