It pains me to write this. It really does. I can remember waking up on Saturday’s after drinking way too much the night before, decking myself out in Bulldog red and making the treck to Sanford Stadium to hang out with 93,000 of my closest friends while we cheered our Dawgs on. There were no boos, no bitching and whining about winning games as we were in the midst of a revival for the Georgia program. Mark Richt was competing for SEC titles when no coach had done so since Vince Dooley himself.
Now look at you. You praise Isaiah Crowell for three years, buttering him up, saying how much you want him to tote the rock for your beloved Dawgs. You tell him you need him, want him and can’t wait to have him as YOUR running back. He then goes out and wins the AP SEC Freshman of the Year award. But it’s not enough. You wanted him to be the next Herschel, which is of course what every big time running back Georgia signs is tied to. “Is he gonna be the next Herschel,” you ask? My answer? “No, you fucking idiot, he isn’t. You know why? Because Herschel is a once in a generation (or two) player.” Herschel was the perfect blend of talent and character and maturation. Stop expecting every damn running back recruit to be the next Herschel. He.Does.Not.Exist.
So what do you do when the latest flavor of the month (in this case, Crowell) isn’t the next Herschel? You turn on him. You take every rumor spread on twitter from anyone with an account and preach it as it’s the damn gospel. I watched in horror (and anger) last Saturday when I heard “fans” booing an 18-year-old kid who was trying to gut out playing on a bum ankle. Why did “fans” boo? Because y’all suck, that’s why. Does Crowell need to grow up a bit? Of course he does. He’s 18!! Every 18-year-old who’s been coddled since he was 10 needs to grow up. But you wanna know the best part? You’re part of the reason (a big part at that) he needs to grow up. You’ve bowed at the almighty recruiting alter, giving his words meaning, giving his ego the nourishment it so desperately DIDN’T need. You scour over recruiting sites and blogs. You go to his playoff games, chanting his name over and over. No wonder he (may) have an inflated view of his own worth. You gave it to him! The irony is hysterical.
What’s great about this is you’ve already moved on from Crowell, the biggest running back recruit UGA has had in a long, LONG time, to the next big thing. You’ve dropped the once and future king for his successor. Just like that!
I wish that was the only reason why you suck, but alas, it’s not. Yesterday some clown from Texas went on Twitter claiming Texas A&M had offered their head coaching position to Mark Richt. Did it say Richt was interested in them? No. It said they were interested in Richt. Well holy fucking shit, you would have thought the world was about to collapse upon itself. Georgia fans were shocked. “Oh no,” they said, “he can’t leave Georgia! What will we do!?!” Of course those same idiot fans were the same idiot fans who wanted to run Richt off after last year. Those same idiot fans wanted to run Richt off after losing to South Carolina. Then Georgia rolls off 10 wins, including a sweep of it’s main rivals for the first time in 30!! years. All of a sudden, Richt remembered how to coach. Glory be to god!! It’s a miracle! Those same fans who volunteered to pack Richt’s bags just two short months ago were aghast that Richt would even entertain Texas A&M’s advances. Hell, if you read that report before Fall hit, you’d have rejoiced to the heavens. You know what’s the best part? I could see Richt listening to the A&M pitch with the thought of you, the idiot, lunatic fringe that wanted to drive him off just two short months ago, in his mind. Again, the irony is almost too much to handle.
Why would he listen? Because y’all suck.
