I was fuloughed once by a startup that ran out of money. We still came to work but didn’t get paid while they tried to secure financing. It never happened and I had to go look for a job.

Most people though get laid off and not fired. At one layoff here, all the people getting laid off were invited to a “business” meeting in the morning. They all knew.
