Let the Countdown Begin!

July 11, 2011
By

Today marks the beginning of The Victory Formation’s top-40 countdown. The poll was based on 5 of our writers submitting their own top-40 and then averaging out each poll. We will do one preview each week day until we get to the final two teams. The final two will be unveiled Thursday, September 1st. The previews won’t be written by just one or two people, so hopefully you’ll get a different take on many of the teams in the countdown. While we can all agree that official preseason polls are not good for the game, the unofficial ones coming from random bloggers are fantastic, right? Some things to ponder before we get this show underway: Will the SEC make it 6 consecutive national championships? Will Ohio State crumble under the weight of the NCAA banhammer? Can Notre Dame get back to the BCS? Will Jordan Jefferson continue to be the reason LSU can’t get back to the SEC title game? How will Auburn recover from it’s losses? Will Chip Kelly be the Oregon coach in December? How will Nebraska handle moving to the Big 10? Is either Boise State or TCU a top-10 team? There are so many story lines in college football, and we are just 52 days shy of opening night. The excitement is palpable.

Here are some things to know about the poll.

  • The teams were based on how we think the polls will look after the conference title games
  • The top two teams were separated by just two points.
  • The SEC leads with 8 teams
  • The B1G Big 10 and Pac 12 each have 7
  • The ACC has 6
  • The Big 12 has 5
  • The Big East and the Mountain West each have 2 teams
  • No conference has more than 2 teams in the top 10
  • The SEC leads with 7 top-25 teams
  • The Big 10 has 5 in the top 25
  • The Big 12 has 4 in the top 25
  • The Pac 12 has 3 in the top 25
  • The ACC has 2 in the top 25
  • The Big East has 1 in the top 25

w00t!! let me know if y’all need anyone to write up any of the team posts. I would obviously do a completely (un) biased look at the 2012 National Championship winning Arkansas Razorbacks, but hell, I could write something up on New Mexico State if someone asked. can’t wait for these.

I’ll tell you this. Parrish didn’t really care for where I put Arkansas…does that make me the good guy or bad guy for you? Stay Tuned!

As for writing, shoot us an email.

I did not. I also didn’t care for where you put South Carolina.

  4. Trey on July 11, 2011 at 9:33 am

    Quit overrating/underrating teams Parrish.

  5. Triston27 on July 11, 2011 at 9:40 am

The ACC has 6, The Big 12 has 4 in the top 25

    Really?

  6. Trey on July 11, 2011 at 9:41 am

The Big 12 isn’t very good this year.

  7. Triston27 on July 11, 2011 at 9:53 am

Exactly. The quote doesn’t read well but I was surprised with the ACC having 6 in the top 40 and the Big 12 having 4 in the top 25. I’m guessing someone put Missouri or Texas up there. Neither of which is top 25. Missouri might be by mid season but not in the beginning with a RS freshman QB.

I have seen them all around the top 15, but mostly in the 11-13 range. just don’t know what to expect from LSU and Jefferson. the top 3 from the west are so beastly, and the Hogs have to play at bammer and LSU.

  9. ParrishWalton on July 11, 2011 at 10:03 am

Triston: One voter put Texas pretty high. Same one put UF absurdly high.

  10. Trey on July 11, 2011 at 10:10 am

    That was NOT me. Promise.

  11. Triston27 on July 11, 2011 at 10:15 am

Who were the 5 voting writers?

Who were the 5 voting writers?

    Myself

    We’ll see who’s right.

If duke didn’t get a 40th vote from someone, I’ll know that steve spurrier didn’t vote in this poll.

    /Bowl game or bust!
//by “bowl game” I mean 4 win season

  15. cycledan on July 11, 2011 at 10:28 am

Well as long at that single top 25 team from the Big East is Syracuse, I am OK with that.

  16. Triston27 on July 11, 2011 at 10:46 am

Triston: One voter put Texas pretty high. Same one put UF absurdly high.

Trey said it’s not him so I’m going with Big D. Reason being that Texas is for some reason getting very favorable odds for both the BCS and Big 12 titles. Big D saw this and it has influenced his vote.

    Iowa?!?!?

    You mean Ohio State JP

  20. Triston27 on July 11, 2011 at 11:38 am

    Oklahoma, Texas, Mizzou, Oklahoma State?

Replace Missouri with Texas A&M and you got it. Personally, I’d have OU, OkSU, A&M and that’s it.

I am already integrating the sanctions in.

However, if no sanctions, yes, the Buckeyes ease out Iowa.

The Aggies were the other team i was thinking of.

I won’t be waiting by the phone for a call to do a Purdue preview.
