Jonesin’ for some College Football

The talk of the college football world this past week has been about Janoris Jenkins getting the heave-ho from Florida thanks to a third marijuana arrest. The Florida media is firmly backing new head coach Will Muschamp for doing what needed to be done. I assume South Carolina and Georgia fans are thrilled as well. Jenkins was a legit shut-down corner in college, and with what will surely be a stout defensive line, Florida was expecting him to cut the field in half. Muschamp did the right thing, and in the long term it will help Florida rid themselves of the “Herban” Meyer stigma, but in the short term it will sting.

While this is the quiet period for college football, tonight is the NFL Draft, the only true collision of college and pro football. As a fan of both, I always get excited to see where my favorite players go and see which player my NFL team of choice selects. So enjoy tonight…and tomorrow…and Saturday as we get to relive the past few years with our favorite players as they make the big leap to the NFL. With that, let’s get to the news of the week.

Tony Barnhart opens up a can on the Big 10 regarding Ohio State.

Stephen Garcia has been in trouble since he set foot on South Carolina’s campus, but he never gets demoted.

For all of you Florida State fans, here’s a rundown of how their spring went.

Colorado wants to sell 25,000 season tickets. The only way this happens is if each ticket comes with a bag of weed.

“Washaun has a ways to go still to show me that he deserves to start or even play right now.” Mark Richt is usually not this blunt.

The NCAA is trying to save face in the midst of the Fiesta Bowl scandal by taking “a hard look at its role in college football’s increasingly messy bowl system.”

Speaking of the bowls, the NCAA has put a 3 year moratorium on adding bowl games.

Some dude from Massachusetts thinks Ohio State should part ways with Jim Tressel.

Utah is loving recruiting as a member of the Pac 12.

Any Kentucky football fans out there? Here’s a rundown of their spring game.

And for your weekly Nebraska link, the offense is undergoing massive changes. Anything is better than what it was the last two seasons.

BYU has accepted a conditional invite to the Armed Forces Bowl…in April. Okay…

Here’s a run-of-the-mill piece on College Football being shady.

Tony Barnhart uses this year’s draft as evidence of the SEC’s dominance. Not sure it’s a valid claim as the Big 12 had several high picks last year, but what the hell.

Notre Dame’s doctors were ahead of the curve back in the day. Maybe they could have pointed out how stupid it was for Declan Sullivan to be in that scissor life.

And for Europe’s brand of football, here are the highlights of the Real Madrid-Barcelona semifinal from yesterday (fast forward to the 1:30 mark for some Messi brilliance).

For now they’ll find a way to jump on him.

I don’t blame Muschamp for dumping Jenkins, it just sucks.

    Welcome to Boulder.

We can’t lose to these dicks again.

I find it awesome, personally. Anyone who’s that stupid deserves no sympathy. it’s also good for UGA because Jenkins would have shat all over Tavarres King.

  • ParrishWalton

We can’t lose to these dicks again.

FSU is about to take over the state again. They are loading the fuck up on nasty talent, and they are about to close down South GA again like they used to. Muschamp and Weis better be what UF fans think they’ll be, or Free Shoe is going to go on a run.

Don’t ever mix the two again. Never.

  • Trey

FSU is about to take over the state again.

Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. They’ve been trotting that pony out for 10 years. In fact, when they beat us in 2003, they were sure of it.

Listen they’ll be good again, but they’ll never, ever, ever be able to match us dollar for dollar. They had a great run thanks to some doo doo competition and UF sanctions. We still beat them to take the trophy in 1996.

    Plus 3 > 2.

  • ParrishWalton

Don’t ever mix the two again. Never.

Get used to it. Leo Messi is a god, and he’s going to be playing through May 28th baby!!

They had a fucking idiot coaching with his idiot son for a good bit of that time. They now have a good coach and a good staff. I’m not saying they’ll go back to dominating football like they did in the 90s, but UF is slipping, whether you want to admit it or not. The state of FLA is up for grabs, and if FSU can get a QB, I like their chances above UF and Miami.

  • Trey

ONE bad year, a rebuilding year at that, and we’re slipping?

Come one Parrish, you’re better than that.

  • ParrishWalton

I think it’s about to be 2 bad years. I think FLA is an 8 win team this year. 9 depending on the bowl game. I think they lose to LSU, Bama and SC for sure and I think UGA gets them this year (as shocking as they sounds). FLA doesn’t have a QB, a go-to WR or a good RB for a pro-set. Those are the facts.

    no, Parrish, NO!!!

/rolls up magazine and beats Parrish with it

  • ParrishWalton

I guess I could have found a video of Tyler Bray lighting up the Tennessee spring game?

    5/30 FTMFW!!!

you posting a video making fun of Tennessee’s QB would actually belong in a post titled “Jonesin’ for some College Football.”

A 8-4/9-3 season is what it will be, even then, it doesn’t matter what talent you have any school that completely changing a coaching staff is going to drop some.

Facts are facts though, Florida still has more talent than most other schools in the country.

You gonna try and convince me Texas is done too? They didn’t even make a freaking bowl game…

    This is good news.

    This is true.

They are in the same boat, actually. I see TAMU, OU, OSU and MIZZ being better than Texas. Mack is about done, and it will be awesome watching a Texas job hunt. They’ll have the pick of any coach they want.

  • Trey

Make no mistake…Gary Patterson would be nice there.

  • ParrishWalton

Make no mistake…Gary Patterson would be nice there.

That would be a great pick. I think that dude is a badass. The only issue is how would he be as a CEO? The coach at Texas needs to be a schmoozer and has to be able to wow the boosters on the speaking tour. That’s the one thing Mack does better than anyone.
