The Morning After: February 19, 2010

Since Super Bowl Sunday, I’ve been more or less stuck in my house.  My car died on February 6, and since then I’ve only left my house three times – I borrowed a car twice to do one-day contracts and once I hitched a ride with family to goto a casino for the night.  I’m going completely out of my friggin’ mind with cabin fever, all because my stupid car has been sitting at the mechanic for almost two weeks.  I will never take the luxury of having a car for granted again.  Most normal days, I sit at home, surf the web, play video games and more recently, work out a little bit.  But at least I always had the option to just go somewhere if I wanted to.

Anyway, by the time you read this I will hopefully have heard from my mechanic and found out if replacing the radiator was the only problem or if I need a whole new transmission and therefore, a new car.  Cross your fingers for me.

Handful of deadline deals in the NBA on Thursday.  I’m going to ignore the Celtics’ move to acquire an undersized ballhogging me-first shooter for a couple bench players and one of the better sixth men shooters in the league… I don’t like it one bit.  I would much rather have moved Ray Allen to Chicago with picks for Ty Thomas and Kirk Hinrich.  The Trade Machine tells me my deal works if the Bulls would have kicked in Jerome James and his $6M expiring contract, who the Celtics could have immediately waived.  Or even a 1 for 1 (plus picks) Ray Allen for Amar’e Stoudamire deal.  But otherwise, the “real” trades involved names like Tracy McGrady, Kevin Martin, Hakin Warrick, Ronnie Brewer Jodie Meeks and… oh look, Tyrus Thomas.

This just in… the sky is blue, water is wet, and Lebron James is pretty good at basketball.  But it wasn’t enough in the end as Carmelo Anthony dropped an 18-foot jumper right in the King’s face, and the Nuggets ended the Cavs’ 13-game winning streak 118-116 in Overtime.  Also, I wrote this entire post before the Celtics/Lakers game even tipped off, so I’ll just assume the C’s blew another fourth quarter lead and lost in LA.

In preparation for Tiger Woods’ upcoming mea culpa, take a look back at some great public apologies through the years.

Disappointing showing for the US Women in Half-Pipe Snowboarding last night.  Though I did catch Torah Bright’s gold-medal run live… it was pretty awesome.  Yes, I realize 2 out of 3 spots on the medal podium shouldn’t be disappointing.  But in a sport like snowboarding where Americans generally dominate, if one of those two spots isn’t the Gold Medal spot, it is disappointing.

This just might make me forgo my nightly Family Guy reruns on Adult Swim in order to catch these episodes.  The look on Costas’ face as he tries to mount a moose is priceless

There’s definitely a joke in here somewhere…

Probably one in here too…

Fun video from YouTube – my buddy sent me this one yesterday.  Love the commentary.

Couldn’t agree more. (Thanks Sparty!)

Semi-Political: People sometimes ask me why I’m in favor of the death penalty… here ya go.

Always nice to see when members of a team that was not involved in any way in a trade between two other teams start opening their mouths to the media.  Hey, we’d have nothing else to write about otherwise…

I watched about an hour of curling on Thursday, USA vs. Denmark.  It was interesting, I guess.  I don’t get all the ranting about the state of the US team, but then again I probably don’t get all the nuances of the sport.  I do know one thing though – that would be one hell of a thing to try doing while drunk.  And I wonder why I’ve blown out my knees so many times…

Just because – I don’t know that I’d be able to do this at my current age of 28, let alone 75.

Ending on some sad news… even Miz can’t celebrate this.

I didn’t have a car for 6 months, it was a burden…and a blessing. I did have to walk to work (I only live a mile from my office), but whenever we’d go play basketball, or go out to the side of town where most my friends live I wouldn’t have to drive, my cousin or someone else coming would gie me a ride

i remember not having a car for 2 years. that was friggin horrible. especially in south florida where the buses run once every half hour if you are lucky.

Having a car in Florida is damn near impossible because every city is so spread out. That’s why when I see people cruising around in smart cars,I’m like WTF?

A starter and picks for two bench players? No thanks.

A little surprising, considering some people view MJ’s influence on Tiger as part of the reason he is where he is right now.
