Did Percy Harvin Keep it Real?

thomasApparently former Gator and now Minnesota Viking wide receiver Percy Harvin was invited by some Florida coaches to come speak to a few recruits about his time at the university. The idea was to give them an NFL player’s perspective on how the school helped him not only get to the NFL, but also how they made him a better player in general.Well, things started great as he talked about how good the staff was to the players, how they won a couple championships, and how they helped him become a NFL first rounder…then he started keeping it real.

What we’re HEARING:

– Harvin discussed his continuous pot use, and how he was able to smoke it for the majority of his time at UF.

– Harvin also confirmed the long time rumor that he made a mistake and choked his wide receivers coach, and how the school gave him a second chance by covering it up so the media didn’t report it.

– He also talked about the benefits that being a Gator brought to the party scene in Gainesville.

Needless to say, the coaches weren’t very happy.  Maybe they should just stick to Tim Tebow at these events?

  1. Needless to say, the coaches weren’t very happy.

Why? Harvin probably got those recruits to agree to play for Florida the second he got done talking.

  3. Kind of reminded me when I took a tour of my college with my son last year. I would have had a lot of different tales to tell at each place. Here is where a militant group took over the student union at gunpoint in the 1960’s. This is where the University knocked down a historic landmark before a judge could rule on the case. Here is where the famous psychology professor taught before he dumped his wife and took off with one of his students.

  5. why wouldn’t the coaches be happy? this is exactly what a college athlete wants to do…hell, he’s just confirming that gainesville is one of college football’s few true heavens.

good job percy…my next bong rip is for you.

I guess that’s why Florida wins National Championships and Ohio State continues to shit itself like an 90 year old man in front of America every January.

i was being serious in my original comment. this isn’t news that college athletes want to be treated like celebrities. having a program that doesn’t give a shit about the hypocrisy that is college football is a great thing. when was the last time a team with strong character but no talent won anything in college sports?

I have no problem with what he said…it sounds like most people’s college life…except replace wide receiver coach with genitals and exclude the media who doesn’t care if your having fun watching porn.

just a matter of time. USC and Florida are going to go down.

For what? USC has shown obvious signs of violations…but where teh heck are ANY violations for UF?

Trust me the school almost got the death penalty in the 80s, we’re not fucking with that again.

SEC athletes know better than to bite the hand that feeds them (i.e. randomly rattle off about the gifts, hundy handshakes, “tutoring”, etc). that’s why they don’t get the hammer laid on them.

yea…florida is squeaky clean. unless they keep having 1 out of 4 recruiting classes get arrested, they’ll be fine.

Wait a minute…when was the last time a former player came out and said they got money adn cars from the University fo Florida?

squeaky clean in the figurative sense. of course florida isn’t completely clean, but compared to USC, which has MAJOR dirt on it, they are. hell…half of texas’ team seemingly got busted for selling weed in the mid-00’s and nothing happened.

my point was, there’s no danger of florida getting fucked by the ncaa anytime soon.

settle down meng, im on your side on this one.

then again…i’d love to see how the ncaa would handle a team like some of those hurricane teams from the mid 80’s and mid 90’s. with today’s media, i don’t think they’d be able to just let them slide like they did back then.

at least all the big BCS schools have bama to scapegoat…the ncaa seems to have it out for them.

  41. Having spoken this morning to a few people who were there, I can tell you authoritatively that what you claim to be “hearing” did not happen.

But then, I guess any discerning reader would know that when an obscure blog posts something controversial without any SOURCE even hinted, they are just making up nonsense to try to get attention.

  47. Sparty,
“Hinting” is yellow journalism for “got no source”. Not that blogging is to be confused with journalism. If you had any journalistic integrity, you’d call Percy’s rep or someone at the Florida UAA and confirm this before posting what is nothing but a rumor based upon fabrication. For instance, did this “hinted source” (if it exists) happen to be the Cane commit who was ejected from the field and kicked out of the camp for inflammatory behavior against the host school? Or one of his teammates? This was not a Florida commit-only camp: players committed to and planning futures at many rival schools attend, and not all of them have UF’s best interests at heart, shall we say.

But if you actually had a source, and this was it, then if you included the source, it would invalidate the information, then wouldn’t it?

And if you actually had a source, one must certainly wonder why you didn’t name it, even vaguely or generally. You certainly don;t have any insider program contacts you would be protecting.

because that would be stupid. the friend that gave us the information would be in big trouble if he was confirmed to have leaked the info.

  53. PD – maybe you haven’t paid attention to the mainstream media’s coverage of sports. if anyone believed what a publicist or rep had to say and then didn’t “report” information because it was refuted by said publicist or rep, then there would be FAR less reporting done in sports. they lie to protect #1. I’ll go ahead and let you in on what Harvin’s rep would have said:

Mr. Harvin is a model citizen. He’s a standup guy who loves children and puppy dogs. He found a dollar bill out of reach of a stripper last week at the club and cared enough for her well being that he picked it up and placed it in her waistband for her. There’s no way Mr. Harvin ever spoke to young, impressionable minds about the joys of smoking ganga. Thank you.

  57. FYI, I was at the Friday Night Lights event that Percy spoke at, I was there with some 2011 kids from the school that I coach at. I heard Percy speak first hand, he did not mention anything that you have hinted he said above. I am not sure who your source is, but if he told you that Percy said these things he is lying. Percy spoke about how when he first got to Florida that he had a chip on his shoulder and did not get along with anybody, not even the coaches, but after the first year when he felt homesick, it was his teammates and coaches who was there for him, and he soon realized that he had a family right here at the University of Florida.” This is fact, not second hand knowledge.

Percy Harvin was invited by some Florida coaches to come speak to a few recruits about his time at the university.

  67. This may the dumbest BS ever printed above or below the Mason-Dixon Line. Anyone who believes a single word of any of that garbage has absoluely no business in college; and even less business being employed by anyone other than the Lansing Waste Reduction Services. Hard to believe there are actually people still out there who are so slow, they don’t even recognize sarcasm and satire when they encounter it. BTW, I hear Glenn Winston is out of the pokey, and not only has MSU let him back in school; but he’s been reinstated to the team, and HE’S STILL ON SCHOLARSHIP.
