The Morning After: June 24, 2009

tmalogoIt’s the Morning After…and the NBA trades start dropping. With about 36 or so hours until David Stern sentences Blake Griffin to the Los Angeles Clippers several are teams talking about making moves. Some to get better, some to free up cap space for next season’s free agent extravaganza.

This is where I leave the inevitable cliffhanger…

Two trades went down yesterday. The Spurs put themselves back in the Western Conference conversation with the acquisition of Richard Jefferson, giving the Bucks a couple humans they considered as nothing more than “cap money”…and the Wizards finally got that big man they’ve needed for a few seasons. Wait! Nevermind, they added more shooting guards and got Mike Miller and Randy Foye…On the flipside the Wolves now control the 5th, 6th, 18th, and 28th picks in what could be one of the worst draft classes since the 2000 Draft…Don’t remember that one? That’s because most of the players drafted that year are no longer in the league…

(Just to note, Mike Miller was the 5th pick and rookie of the year in that 2000 Draft Class)

While we’re on the NBA, did you see this doozy about Phil Jackson debatingon whether to coach the Lakers at home while letting Kurt Rambis coach more games on the road? Shit or get off the pot Phil. Either you commit or you let Rambis take over full time. Who do you think you are? Bobby Bowden?

The College World Series is going t a 3rd and decisive game between LSU and Texas, two of college baseball’s powerhouses.

Manny comes out of retirement to play for the Albuquerque Isotopes! ‘Topes win! ‘Topes win! Wait. He wasn’t retired?

Bud Selig’s Reason #13874 why it really counts…President Barak Obama will throw out the first pitch at the All Star game…see…it counts.

Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg says Sosa doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame…He just wants to be the only Cub with that distinction for awhile right?

The Hockey Hall of Fame announced their 2009 class…among the new HOFers? Yzerman, Hull, Robitalle and Leetch. I’d take those three.

Ever since the 2004 Stanley Cup victory they Lightning have made the slow move back to rock bottom and the inevitable relocation that will come with it…Sealing the deal by trading Vinny Lecavlier? That’ll do it.

Allow me to get a wee bit political…I’m sure most of you have been up to date on the happenings with the Iranian elections and the protested results. Four Iranian soccer players took a chance by wearing green bands in support of the protest during their last match. They are no longer allowed to play the sport for their country…We often take for granted the voice our nation allows us to have.

Need to lighten the mood…

Pillows. White Cloud Toilet Paper. A puppy’s fur. Notre Dame’s schedule…they all have one thing in common!

T.O. got bitched out by a super model on Super Stars or whatever on ABC…says she was more masculine than Jeff Garcia.

LANE KIFFIN NEWS!!! Great news from the Lane Kiffin camp…Former Vol great and NFL superstar Peyton Manning has come out and asked the fans to give Lane TWO YEARS…then muttered under his breath (but no more than that…)

And remember…She squats amongst the cabbages and peas.

Hopefully FOX will tweak him and only show the first pitch on tape delay.

  17. Just found the reason why Manny can play in minor league ball while suspended. Found here towards the bottom:

Why is Ramirez being allowed to play in the minors on a rehab assignment while still serving his 50-game suspension? According to one major league official, the agreement allowed for such assignments because the union argued that without such assignments, any pitcher suspended would be lost to his team for closer to 65 games than 50. Don’t be surprised, the official said, if owners try to strike that clause in the future.

FIFA should give dispensation to these players to play football for another country after this.
