The Morning After: March 10, 2009

The Morning AfterI really had no idea what to write as an intro when I sat down to get TMA going. Then I just waited for the final buzzer in a basketball game that took place yesterday. You may have heard the saying, “there are two certainties in life; death and taxes.” Well that is not the only thing you can count on There is one that happens on the hardwood, and that is the Pistons beating the Magic.

Only in hockey does a team fire its coach while they are still a playoff contender, and it is always the GM that heads down to the box.

ESPN has very little NHL coverage, but what is going on with Scott Burnside?

The NHLPA is trying to protect its own players by trying to ban hits to the head. You paying attention NFLPA?

3 Hockey links to start the day????

BARKLEY IS FREE!!! BARKLEY IS FREE!!! That was a nice 36 hour waste of tax payer money.

Who wants a 3pt shooting chucker on their team? Anyone? No. Didn’t think so. Sorry Ben.

Don’t let your girlfriend run with scissors. She might just be a crazy out of her mind bitch.

I will never hold it against Eagles fans for booing their own team. The organization is run by a bunch of c words.

Cleveland Browns are talking to NY Jets free agents. HA! Sorry Browns fans, that ain’t the answer. Seriously, that’s funny. Not getting any better in Cleveland.

But as bad an inept as management may be in Cleveland, it stil isn’t worse than Detroit. They are changing their logo, they think it will mean more wins. Of course when you have zero wins, anything can be attributed to improvement if you win one game.

Dan Patrick is still the man.

Memphis is still pulling in the big time recruits. They won’t be leaving the top 10 anytime soon.

JRod has lost his mind over at Midwest Sports Fans. He has Wisconsin winning the Big Ten Tournament. HA!

The New Broad Street Bullies. OMG! A 4th hockey link.

Pedro Martinez showing he still has something left in the tank.

Commenter Tampa Bo is the latest recipient of the MLJ Jerk of the Month. I won that way back when.

  1. sorry, miz. I am trying to keep the words as clean as possible, for all of our advertisers. every last none of them.

  3. JRod is a little jaded right now, he’s a Hoosier fan. Wouldn’t it be hysterical for Indiana to go on a run and win the Big 10 tourney? then i would be right.

  5. To Wong Foo…it’s not even fun to watch the Magic lose another close one to the Pistons, can we please have one late shot go in?

    Thanks for everything.

  9. miz, I think the c word you’re looking for is Cowboys. That has to be it.

  11. Would the damn firing of that guy in Philly have even been such a “sad” story if the guy didn’t have health problems? He vented about his employer in a rather public setting…he was asking for it…while the treatment is a bit harsh, he shouldn’t have done it…he knows it was stupid and deleted the comment once he realized he made a mistake.

  13. Glad the Lions picked the logo they did…some of those other ones are terrible…one of them looks like a seal and a bunch of others look like saber-tooth tigers.

  15. Ya…plus he was being guarded by JJ Redick the whole 4th. That disqualifies him.

  17. +24 to me. My psychic abilities are amazing.

    I’m sad, silent clock…

That was very disappointing…I really didn’t expect him to go down quite yet…at least he went out with a bang.

  19. Wow hockey being discussed. I actually watched the Burnside video this weekend and yeah it as semi creepy

Big game in that the Canes beat the Rangers to jump over them into the playoffs. It’s going to be an interesting close to the season to see who gets in at the bottom of the east. By the way if you’re one of the top 4 teams you better hope that you miss Pittsburgh. They’re not as good as they were last year but at the same time they’re a much better team than they were at the beginning of the season right now. This team is going to be a tough out

  21. Damn Sparty! Congrats…again! The Pistons out-hustled the Magic in the last quarter and their shots were falling. I only have this to say about the game – I thought the officiating was a little uneven last night. Not saying it favored either of the teams, just that it seemed that they were letting them play playoff basketball for stretches (which I don’t mind at all) and then calling ticky-tack stuff for a while. Magic definitely need to play more physical at times which Detroit is good at.

  23. Yea, yea…I know…someday they’ll stop disappointing…but they don’t suck.

  25. I’m actually paying very little attention to the president’s trophey. I just want to get in

  27. i am concerned about the Red Wings defense as of late. well as of the whole season. they have these games where they are like swiss cheese.

  29. sparty – again, I’m not complaining about anything other than the lack of officiating consistency throughout the game. I don’t think it affected the outcome. Of course we missed Turkoglu and you missed AI….sorry couldn’t say that with a straight face. I am really starting to think it’s mental for the the Magic when it comes to the Pistons.

  31. One of the things that really bugs me about the Magic is their lack of toughness. When the game was being officiated “playoff style” last night (which I enjoy), the Magic just can’t play that style well. That will limit them in the post-season until they get that toughness instilled in them.

  33. The Celtics won’t have KG, Rondo, Big Baby, Tony Allen and Scalabrine tomorrow against the Heat. Can I use that as an excuse if they only win by less than 10 points?

  37. Yeah I wouldn’t want to go into the playoffs with Ozzie and Conks playing like they are. Especially with the swiss chese defense that Sparty alluded to

  39. Yeah their defense was unbelievable last year. That and they way that they always seemed to have the puck

  41. What can I say? Bo Ryan scares me. I see his scowl in my most horrific of nightmares. I feared a good two weeks of haunted dreams and paranoid days if I picked against Sir Evil and his Expression of Death. Plus, I had just gotten done watching them dismantle IU — which I realize is nothing to write home about this year, but I’ll blame the prediction on the recency effect.

And did I mention that Bo Ryan scares me?

Hence, the Wisconsin Angryboryans will win. That’s my pick and sticking to it.

  43. That Philly employee is a good lesson on knowing that you are always being watched these days. The guidance counselor at my son’s high school said that before your kid applies to college, punch in his name and see what comes up. Kids have been rejected by colleges since there was a picture on their or a friend’s myspace or facebook page with them partying or doing something else frowned upon.

Many employers have fired people who posted info on the company online in chat rooms or bulletin boards.

Also, assume there is a camera everywhere these days. Look at Michael Phelps. He was partying with some friends and some asshole photographs him and sells it to a tabloid.

  45. cycledan–That’s what I’m saying…you don’t do stuff like that and expect to not suffer consequences…it’s too easy for your employer to see it and take action.
