The Morning After: October 2, 2008

Anyone Have a Spare Liver?

Yesterday afternoon Sparty emailed me and requested I do The Morning After. I thought it would be a grand celebration of the Cubs winning game one against the Dodgers. Instead I had to stumble my way through writing about everyone elses teams winning while I got really drunk. The casualties as of THESE TYPED WORDS: 9 Heinekens, 6 Tecates down…. and (shaking can) about to be 7 Tecates.  I will update this number as I go along. Writing The Morning After normally takes about two hours…Ill see if I can make it to 20 beers.

The Games

Well, I guess I could go cut and paste some shit from ESPN…but you will end up there at some point anyways, so why bother. Why not get the views from both sides of the fence. The agony and excuses from one side, not to mention the shit talking  and jubilation from the other side.

Phillies 3 Brewers 1

The Brewers as many expected, lost to the Phillies who won their first playoff game since 1993. I didnt realize that the Phillies were as long suffering as the Cubs…one WS in 125 years? I wanted to get some opinions we had not seen before so I went “in search of.” I found this to be particularly useful…just not quite what I was looking for. I was amazed at how many Brewers Blogs have not been updated since the Brewers almost shit the bed in early September. A win could change that as everyone would be sure to jump back on the bandwagon. Meanwhile the Phillies were a bit happier with themselves and to prove it i cut and pasted a sincere comment from this thread:

Cole Hamels is so great, and we are lucky to have a pitcher like him on our team. I really hope he is here for a long time.

Wow…seriously? Bang a dude or two while you’re at it.

Beer Update…I just finished beer 17 and cracked open beer 18. The next paragraph may take two or three beers to write…stay tuned.

Dodgers 7 Cubs 2

Yeah…No updates from my blog on this one. I as tempted to write something as compelling as this on my site, but obviously was beaten to it. Instead I searched a few more minutes to see if I could find a Cubs blog that had a writer that updated their blog before heading to their local drug dealer. I went to the blog of probably one of the most loyal Cubs fans ever (Kurt Evans)and got a good talking to. I will probably go back and read that when I am done….and again tomorrow afternoon….and then one more time before the game.

Beer Update…I just took a piss and got another two beers to finish this thing up…Cracking open 19…in my defense I started drinking during the Brewers game about eight hours ago.

As far as the Dodgers go…well I live just North of LA, and I am surrounded by Dodger “fans.” I have had about 14 calls now….I ignored the last 12 though….asshats. I dont want to actually know the people who talk shit to me about how great the Dodgers are…how the Cubs are going to choke….etc. Amazingly, I spent about 20 minutes looking for some good Dodger updates on a good blog – and I couldnt find any. I guess I will just have to leave you with the post game player quotes.

Red Sox 4 Angels 1

Well, it is the top of the ninth as I write this and 10 pm here in the west. I know now that I wont be awake for anyone to update therir blog in time for me to be able to get the links here and be able to function tomorrow. The Sox didnt miss Manny Ramirez as his replacement Jason Bay hit the go ahead / game winning homerun…I see it as same production, less distraction, better defense…That Theo Epstein is one smart Jew. No Blog coverage so I will just give you the ESPN recap link.

How long will it be before people will start citing race as an issue in the Vince Young / Kerry Collins QB “controversy.” Afterall there are only four black starting NFL QBs none of which play for the six black head coaches in the league. Maybe Vince Young is just overrated…or a has been. Maybe he was just a very good system QB.

How stupid do you have to be ( I am looking at you Travis Henry) to blow your chance to make millions of dollars for a chance to do a coke deal. You are already on fucking probation you dip shit…suspended for a year so you decide to a coke deal? For $63,000?  Seriously? This is a guy that has made $11 million dollars in his career. $63k is like 1/2 of one percent of his career earnings. Lets call it $2M a year to keep the math easy.  $63k is 3% of his annual salary. That would be like a guy who makes $50k risking his life to make an extra $1500!

And here I thought my African American friends only drank malt liquor and Hennesy?

The disapperance of adventurer Steve Fosset appears to be coming to a close as a hiker found his wallet and a wad of cash. Kudos to the dude who found the stuff for actually returning the cash…just wonder if a billionaire “only” had $1000 on him I guess.

You know how the media tries to make us care about soccer? They want you to care less about hockey to make room for “futbol” in your life.

The $700 Billion Fleecing of America was passed yesterday. I am not sure whether to be happy or sad. It had to happen on alot of levels, but was there another way? The sports equivalent of bailouts certainly dont approach anything close to billions…but it is still a good read.

Looking for bailout material myself now that I have had my 22nd beer. Fuck…i think I am an acoholic. I guess I will leave you with a fancy email I got from a friend…if you already read it…fuck off…otherwise….dream with me that this plan could be enacted.

How the bailout could Really Help the Economy (via email)…(double click the picture)

Final beer tally 22..and I am going to go play a couple of games of on line poker before i hit the sack at 1230a. Hopefully all of these links work and the story isnt to drunk…lt me know what ya think in the comments.

I am so sick of that email. Do the math, it’s only $400 and change. $85,000 million divided by 200 million is not $400k. (I’m not railing on you Mikey, just whoever penned that thing)

The media is sucking Hamels shwantz too. Brewers were swinging at first pitch for a good chunk of the game, maybe a different story if we work the count. And f-ing Weeks dropped the throw at first on a bunt. Then we were out of that jam, but Cameron couldn’t hold onto out #3. F-bombs galore over here, as 3 runs come in that inning. Nice to see Lidge is still vulnerable, may still come in handy.

by the way, I like the principle behind that email. however:

    $85 trillion / 200 million people = $425,000 per person.

    $85 billion / 200 million people = $425 per person.

I’ll let it slide, mikey. you were 22 beers in so there’s no way you would have caught that. good morning after overall.

Even if it’s only 425 dollars. I’d still rather have it in my pocket than go to a bailout where it will just end up gone.

Mikey, think you did fine. 22 beers. I think even in my drinking days back in college I never drank close to that. I think I would simply throw up since my stomach wouldn’t hold it. These days, I have a drink or two at most and haven’t been drunk in a really long time. I don’t really miss it.

Most of my African American friends and friends of other races drink single malt scotch. Personally I can’t stand nor afford the stuff.
